Holders Barrow Crash OF FA Trophy At First Attempt

Barrows hopes of defending their FA Trophy ended in rather unspectacular fashion as they lost 3-2 at home to Guisley who had to come through a qualifying round to reach this stage. With last seasons beaten finalists Stevenage Borough not eligible to play since their promotion we know already that two ndifferent teams will grace Wembley in the final in 2011.

There were not too many shocks in round one and probably the results of the round were up and coming Boston United’s 1-0 win at York and Dartford efforts gaining a credible 3-3 draw at Crawley Town. Crawley will probably point to their Mid week FA Cup heroics as explaining their below par performance, however they will have no excuses in tonight’s replay.

Droylsden who were so close to pulling off a Cup shock themselves having led at Orient 2-1 after 89 minutes before capitulating 8-2 in extra time bounced back with a stirring 4-3 win over Hinkley, watched by a tiny crowd of 127. This probably reflects the expense of traveling to the Orient match more than any disgruntlement with their efforts and hopefully they will be a lot better supported when they play Ebbsfleet United in round 2.

Uxbridge who had to join in the preliminaries made it 5 wins in the competition when edging Lowestoft Town 3-2 and have been rewarded with a glamorous tie at Luton Town providing Luton negotiate a potentially tricky replay with Welling United. Given that Wellings Goalie was clear man of the match we expect the Hatters to progress.  For a team of Uxbridges standing getting this far is a major achievement and will have added a nice bit of revenue to the clubs coffers and a game at Luton should draw in a 4 figure crowd.

Curzon Ashton and Altrincham will have to replay after a power failure forced their game to be abandoned.
