The opening games of the Euro 2012 qualifiers produced few surprise results, however the performance of Cyprus & Albania will have raised a few eyebrows as well as swelling the Book Makers coffers.

Cyprus produced an astounding performance in Portugal twice taking the lead and eventually grabbing a point in a 4-4 draw thanks to an 88th minute goal from promising left winger Andreas Avraam. Portugal did have the balance of the play and managed 22 shots at goal, however if Cyprus can repeat this form then they will upset a few more of their group rivals.

The other big result was Albania’s 1-1 draw in Romania. Albania held on resolutely for 80 minutes and then after going a goal down somehow managed to grab the equalizer in the 88th minute. In their last meeting Romania won 6-1 and a similar scoreline was expected.

Neither Albania or Cyprus will be playing in the 2012 finals but at least they will have a result to remember.
