Inter Milan Grab Big Win at Bayern Munich

Champions League Holders Inter Milan just got the better of the side they beat in last years final Bayern Munich, advancing on away goals after a thrilling 3-2 away win.

Trailing 1-0 fromthe home leg Inter wasted no time in tying the aggregate scores when Eto’o scored the opener after 3 minutes. However the lead didn’t last and two first half goals from Bayern left the aggregate at 3-1 and gave Inter a mountain to climb in the second half. However the holders are made of stearn stuff and when Wesley Sneijder pulled one back after 63 minutes the tide clearly turned and it was no surprise when Pandev pounced in the 88th minute to level the scores and send the Italians through on away goals.

Manchester United Progress to Last 8 Of Champions League

Manchester United kept the dream of a second treble alive last night as they beat Marseille 2-1 to progress to the last eight of the 2011 Champions league.

In a game of few chances it was Javier Hernandez who made the difference grabbing two goals, both from close range to put United 2-0 up. The first came after 5 minutes as he instinctively got on the end of Wayne Rooney’s cross and when he added his second on 75 mins it looked like the tie was over. However Wes Brown unluckily put the ball into his own net in the 83rd min and this led to a nervous last few minutes as Marsailles drove forward looking for an equaliser which would have put them throuigh on away goals. Fortunately for the majority of the 73,996 Man utde held out and will now join Spurs as English reperesentatives in the last 8.

3 Scottish Cup Quarter Finals end with Draws

The 3 Scottish Cup Quarter Final matches which were playe this weekend ended in draws while Inverness Caledonian Thistle v Celtic was postponed.

Aberdeen left it late in their tie at St Mirren scoring their equaliser in the 93rd minute, while Dundee United & Motherwell fought out an entertaining 2-2- draw.

Result of the round and possibly of this seasons competition to date however was Brechin’s excellent 2-2 home draw against SPL side St Johnstone with Rory McAllister grabbing the equaliser in the 78th minute to give the Scottish League 2 side a money spinning replay.

The attendance here was an impressive 3,472 which to put it into perspective is around half the population of Brechin as recorded in 2010!

Manchester City Through To FA Cup semi Final

Manchester City overcame a dogged Reading side to set up a Manchester Derby in the FA Cup semi final. Reading came with a game plan which entailed defending in depth and trying to frustrate their multi millionaire opponents, and for 84 minutes it looked like they might just succeed in earning a replay. However defender Micah Richards popped up with the winner to set up the all Manchester clash.

City deserved their 1-0 win, creating 18 shots at goal to Readings 4 and they had just the better of the possession.

The attendance at Eastlands was 41,150 around half the that expected for the Wembley Semi Final.
